General info about Radical Red Goni

In general, corals coming from the genus Goniopora have numerous corallites that are walled invidually. Each corallite has a polyp that is usually exposed and extended. Their polyps are usually long, has a daisy-like tips each having 24 tentacles and sways like a flower tube.

As for the Radical Red Goniopora, they are predominantly colored red with orange polyp and pink mouth. This are the water parameters in cultivating Radical Red Goniopora:

  • Calcium: 400 - 450 ppm
  • Alkalinity: 3.2 - 4.8 MEQ/L
  • Phosphates: 0
  • Magnesium: 1200 - 1350
  • Strontium: 8 - 10
  • Temperature: 76° - 83° F (24° - 28° C)
  • Salinity / Specific Gravity: 1.023 - 1.025

Radical Red Goni Diet & Nutrition

The Radical Red Goniopora get its primary nutrition from the symbiotic zooxanthellae living within its tissue. But on top of this, we still recommend you do supplemental feeding by adding mysis and brine shrimp. Further, the additional of dissolved organics is highly recommended.

Fragging / Propagating Radical Red Goni

A mature tank is highly recommended in propagating Radical Red Goniopora. They should be set on the middle or bottom part of the tank.

Flow / Lighting Requirements for Radical Red Goni

The Radical Red Goniopora requires moderate to strong lighting and moderate waterflow.

Parasites & Diseases that Affect Radical Red Goni

The Radical Red Goniopora is susceptible to mortality caused by nutritional deficiencies. With this, the addition of supplemental nutrition and nutrients is highly recommended.

Radical Red Goni Origin

The Radical Red Goniopora can be found in the waters of the Indo-Pacific Ocean, particularly in the Philippines and Indonesia. They are listed as a vulnerable species under Appedix II of the CITES list.

Caution Should be Taken with Radical Red Goni

The Radical Red Goniopora has an aggressive behaviour and may require adequate spacing in relation to other corals in the tank.

How to Acclimate Radical Red Goni

The Radical Red Goniopora is purely marine. So, therefore, salinity must be maintained thoroughly at 1.023 to 1.025 specific gravity.

Stinging Tentacles on Radical Red Goni

The Radical Red Goniopora have long sweeper tantacles and may sting nearby corals.
