In this article, we are doing a bit of a fish spotlight on the Diamond Goby, arguably, one of the best sand-bed cleanup crews. Of course, there are many other options like the Nestaria snails and Conchas. However, your sand would look the best under the care of a Diamond Watchman Goby.
Diamond Watchman Goby
This little fish is active. He constantly takes a mouth full of sand and swift it through his gills. Apart from being helpful, it is also great to watch. But wherever he goes, there is a pristine pile of sand left behind.
Tank Size
It is advised to keep this fish in about a 30-gallon or larger tank, and more prominent with more sand bed is always better.
Temperament
Overall, it is a super easy fish. He is incredibly peaceful and gets along with everyone in the tank. However, they could fight with other similar fish. So, it is best to stick with just one per tank.
Diet
The Diamond Goby loves to eat Mysis pellets. But, if you have a new or a small tank, you want to ensure that you supplement the food a little bit more because he might not be getting enough out of the sand.
Great Sand Sifters
Unlike the other sand-sifters, this fish stays low to the ground. Many fishes will take a mouthful of sand, go halfway up the tank, and start sifting through it, dumping sand all over your tank and coral.
However, this fish will never go more than an inch away from the bottom. This means the sand stays on the ground, and your corals aren't getting buried. So, that's been a huge one.
One Caution
One slight issue you might face is that initially, he can decide to make a bit of borrow under your coral. To solve this, you can make rock rubble and build it up an inch or two, so he has a cave underneath. This way, it would bury the coral.
Conclusion
Besides that, the Diamond cleaner is an excellent reef cleaner fish, and you wouldn't have to vacuum the tank all the time. So, this fish is your answer if you have a dirty sand bed.
