The Purple Tilefish: A Complete Care Guide

The Purple Tilefish is one of the top favorite fishes in the hobby due to its beautiful lilac body color and crimson red marking along the outer edges of its tail.

It is an eye-catching fish to have among a reef aquarium.

With that being said, the purple Tilefish is definitely reef safe. It is quieter with other fish, but it can get testy at times, especially towards members of its species.

The Purple Tilefish should be acclimated to an aquarium of at least 50-gallons. It needs plenty of room to swim since it is very active. It will also need at least three inches of sand for burrowing.

Feeding

The Tilefish may get timid when adjusting to a new environment. So, making sure that it gets proper nutrition is very important.

You may need to spot-feed these fish initially to ensure they get the food they need. Due to its very active lifestyle, Tilefish will also need to be provided at least twice a day.

Jumper Fish

Given the variety of food such as Mysis, Brine Shrimp, and other meaty substances.

The number one fatality for a Tilefish is Jumping from the tank.

Tilefish are known to be extremely skittish and fast-moving. However, once they are more comfortable with their surroundings, they will spend most of their time swimming and skimming the top of the water.

Unfortunately, if there is any way to jump, they'll find a way out. When acquiring a Tilefish, it is extremely important to have a tightly sealed top on your aquarium.

The Personal Bonding

One of the main reasons the Tilefish ranks high on the list of favorites is that once your fish comes out of its shell, it will eat right out of the palm of your hand and will bond with you like a loyal pet.

It is the special connection that many find so special about this fish.
