In this article, we are going over five reasons why your new aquarium is covered in Algae.
No Beneficial Bacteria
The lack of beneficial bacteria causes algae. Sometimes we don't wait for the tank to start the cycle, and we add in the fish. But with no beneficial bacteria to convert the Ammonia.
That's why one of the most important aspects of this hobby is patience. Wait for your tank to cycle. You can add a beneficial bacteria mix or a pre-established sponge filter.
Poor Water Circulation
Generally, algae do not like good water flow. However, without water flow, the nutrient will sit in one spot, build up, and it's going to stop the exchange of CO2 and oxygen.
Imbalance of Light, CO2, and Fertilization
This one is especially true for planted tanks. It can take a long time to balance an aquarium, far longer than your cycle.
With so many different factors, it's vital to keep track of everything. Eventually, it'll fall back on track as the tank grows old and you learn more about what light intensity is right, what nutrients your tank lacks, etc.
Not Enough Water Changes
More water changes and removing excess nutrients can be a double-edged sword. However, you have to be consistent with it. A 10% every week can be a great place to start.
Cleanup Crew
It takes a good cleanup crew to keep your tank algae-free. So make sure you have good cleanup fishes, snails, and shrimps to keep your tank algae in control
