So what do you think of when you hear Tunze? Soon it could be macro algae reactors, Tunze presented in InterZoo 2018 a new series of macro algae reactors the Tunze MAR 3181 and MAR 3182.

Designed with a 10w white LED strip light on one side of the reactor and Tunze Silence circulation pump to keep algae (like chaeto algae) spinning allowing all of the algae to get equal amounts of light.

The design follows the same basic concept seen with other algae reactors, it has a cylinder to hold the algae, a light to promote photosynthesis and water pump to circulate nutrient-filled water through the algae to absorb the nutrients from the water.

Using an algae reactor is simial to having a refugium for your tank. The benefits of growing algae in a refugium or reactor is that it absorbs the nutrients from the water and can prevent anusent algae from growing in your display tank, like hair algae.

Algae reactors typically take up less room and can be placed inside existing sumps is space permits.

The Tunze MR 8131 Algae Reactor is designed for aquariums 160 gallons or less, for aquariums up to 423 gallons Tunze has the MR 8132.
