6 Surprising Pets You Can Keep in a Fish Tank (That Aren't Fish)

If you are into fishkeeping, you might have bought almost everything your local fish store offers.

Snails

All of us start with snails and shrimp. The average hobbyist can also breed them in the tank. These are little additions in your tank that are not fish, but most people enjoy.

They are beneficial, maybe not in a hardcore breeding setup, but they are lovely creatures, and if you have not kept them as a bet, you should do it.

It's weird to see them eat through the glass, and it's enjoyable.

So don't be afraid of keeping shrimps or snails. Start with something simple and slowly go down that rabbit hole.

Frogs

More than one type of frog, an African Dwarf Frog or a Clog Frog, can live inside your tank. With experience, you can also graduate on to other advanced frogs.

Crabs

Crabs are a great addition to your tank, and they can be great algae eaters. But they need a dry spot where they can come out of the water.

They do not pry on your fish. However, you'll have to provide them with food.

Crayfish

They are plant safe, they are not predators, thus great surprising pets.

Turtles

No matter which turtle you keep, you can get one that fits great with your fish. If you are a fish keeper, make sure you add them to the tank and be sure to keep them only with compatible fishes.
