In this article, we want to talk about some of the less common species of Corydoras that won't break the bank. We are all familiar with the Albino, peppered, and Brozne, all the typical species that you can find at Petco and PetSmart.
And while there is nothing wrong with those species, sometimes we want to branch out into something less common that is also not much expensive. So, here are the five Corydoars for you:
Corydoras Loretoensis
This species was first discovered in the 90s in Peru. It's native to the amazon basin. Why get the fish:
- Lovely black polka dots all over the body
- Tall dorsal fins compared to the size of their body
- A smaller species that get around 2-inches
Corydoras Napoensis
It is named this because it is from Napo, Peru. The size of this depends on where they come from; in general, however, they get about one and a half inches.
Why get the fish:
- Horizontal black and white stripes, with a bronze stripe down the line
- Budget-friendly - easily under $10
Corydoras Leopardus
The more you have, the better they thrive in the tank. These are a bit shyer than other Corydoras, but with time they'll start coming out and schooling around the tank.
Why get the fish:
- Along with the polka dot, the find has a black horizontal stripe that goes down half its body
- Flag tail with black vertical stripes
- Black spot at their dorsal fins
Corydoras Sychri
There is also another species of Corydoras very similar to this one, which looks almost identical. But Sychri has that triangle snout, while the Astros have a round snout.
Why get the fish:
- With black polka dots with a super cool black mask
- Peaceful and shy species
Corydoras C123
There is a lot of information about this species. They come from Rio Nene, discovered in 2012, and possibly brought to the hobby in 2016.
Why get the fish:
- Fairly large, about two inches
- The body is bland, but its Yellowfins make it stand out.
