So, let's find out everything about the Half Black Tang, and you can take the best care of them:
Half Black Tang
Price
You will have to spend at least $30 to get one of these fish in your tank. The price can fluctuate a bit depending upon the size and availability of this fish.
Tank Size
It is recommended to keep these fish in 75-gallon if it is juvenile, as upgrade as needed. So, once they do get their maximum size, you will need at least a 120-gallon tank to the home of these fish.
Care Level
They are one of the easiest Tang to take care of. They are good about eating fast in the tank environment, and they also are very hardy, so it is good to get these if you are looking for a good Tang to have.
Temperament
Now, they are semi-aggressive. They have that Tang personality where they are the kings and queens of the tank, especially for the newcomers added in. Often, they can be aggressive towards them, but it is mainly because they have too many territories in the tank. They guard everything.
Reef Compatibility
They are amazing reef fish, they are very active in the reef aquarium, and they are good about eating algae off the corals.
Origin
They do come from Indonesia.
Water Parameter
- Temperature: 72-78 degrees Fahrenheit
- dKH: 8-12
- pH: 8.1-8.4
- Salinity: 1.020-1.025
Appearance
Maximum Size
Eventually, they can get up to about 10-inches which is really large for a tang, but it takes many years for them to reach that size. In the first few years, they will not get more than 6-inches in size.
Colors
They have this really nice grey face that fades into black with the incredible signature texture running all over their body. You can clearly see the outlines of their back fins that are neon-blue in color under the right light.
Diet
So, Tangs are herbivore, but in the tank, they will be an omnivore. You got to be feeding them plenty of algae because this will keep their health up, and it is going to keep them from getting diseases. It is also going to keep their colors look really good.
You can get sea veggies and cut them into little cubes, and put them on a clip inside the tank. You can also try to cut little slits out of the algae. It will help to not eat up that entire piece of algae at once but in little portions. But make sure that you are feeding them some algae at least once a day.
They are also going to eat some meaty food, like Mysis and brine shrimps.
Multiple Tangs
If you are willing to house multiple Tangs in a tank, it is always best to add them all at the same time. A lot of time when you already have a tang in a tank that has been there for years and are willing to add another one, then 99 out of 100 times the old tang will chase and bully the new Tang to the point where you will have to take the new one out.
Active Swimmer
These Tangs are extremely active swimmers, so you need to have lots and lots of water flow. You need to have powerheads along with lots of live rocks, as they love to graze those rocks.
So, that was all you need to know to provide this fish the best aquarium life.
Happy Reefing!
