Albino Peacock Cichlid

<p>The average adult is 6 inches. Albino Peacocks are white with red eyes and the males have the typical egg spots on the anal fin. Albino Peacocks can happen in nature due to mutations but most of the ones found in stores are actually hybrids that were bred in captivity. As such, it is hard to give specific information about Albino Peacocks, especially because they can be of any Peacock species, so when it comes to taking care of one without knowing the parent’s species it is best to follow the recommendations that are common to all Peacocks. These fish prefer aquariums with plenty of rocks and a sandy substrate. A large aquarium  with lots of caves is advisable to allow multiple territories, which will reduce their territorial behavior. Unlike many other Cichlids, the Peacock Cichlid is peaceful and can be kept in a community tank with peaceful Cichlids or other mid-size peaceful fish. They can be kept in groups but it is advisable for the group to be made of one male and several females.</p>

<p>These fish are omnivorous. They can be fed with flakes suitable for Cichlids or with live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, vegetable matter should also be fed for a better diet. They are bottom dwellers so it is important to feed them food that sinks. Tubifex worms and mammal meat should be avoided because it can cause Malawi bloat.</p>

<p>Males are more colorful and larger with pointy dorsal and anal fins while females are silver and smaller with rounder fins. The males also have egg spots on the anal fin.</p>

<p>For breeding to be successful, it is very important for each male to have its own territory, which is usually a cave. The courting begins as soon as the territory is established. The male make quick movements to get the female’s attention and lure her into his cave. Once the female enters the cave, she will lay her eggs and the male will fertilize them, afterwards the female will pick the fertilized eggs in her mouth. She will then stay inside the cave until the fry hatch, which usually takes 28 days. There is no parental care so once the fry hatch the parents leave. Fry can be fed with newly hatched brine shrimp and finely ground flake food.</p>

<p>If they don’t have a good diet they can suffer from Malawi bloat.</p>

<p>The Peacock Cichlid can be found in Lake Malawi, Africa.</p>

<p>They like to dig the substrate so it is best to avoid using gravel since it can cut their gills.</p> <p> </p>
