Red Dragon Arowana

The Red Dragon Arowana is a freshwater fish that is known for its striking appearance. It has a long and slender body with large scales that are iridescent and shimmer in the light. The fish is predominantly silver in color, but it has a distinctive red hue on its tail and fins. This red coloration is what gives the fish its name, as it resembles a dragon's fiery breath.  Red Dragon Arowanas can grow to be quite large, with some specimens reaching over three feet in length. They can also live for many years, with some individuals living up to 20 years or more.  Due to their large size, Red Dragon Arowanas require a spacious aquarium that is at least 200 gallons in size. The aquarium should have plenty of open swimming space, as well as hiding spots such as rocks, caves, and driftwood. The water temperature should be kept between 75-82°F, with a pH level of 6.5-7.5.  Red Dragon Arowanas are solitary fish and do best when kept alone or with other large, non-aggressive fish. They can be quite skittish and easily startled, so they require a quiet and peaceful environment. They are also known for their jumping ability, so it is important to have a tightly secured lid on their aquarium.  The Red Dragon Arowana is considered to be a vulnerable species due to habitat destruction, overfishing, and the aquarium trade. Many countries have implemented regulations on their capture and exportation to protect their populations in the wild.

In the wild, Red Dragon Arowanas feed on a variety of smaller fish, crustaceans, and insects. In captivity, they can be fed a diet of live or frozen foods such as shrimp, krill, and small fish. Some owners also offer a pellet or flake food specifically designed for arowanas.

Breeding Red Dragon Arowanas in captivity is quite difficult and requires specific water conditions and breeding techniques. As a result, most specimens available for purchase are wild-caught.

Red Dragon Arowanas are native to Southeast Asia, specifically in the countries of Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. They inhabit slow-moving rivers and swamps with murky waters, where they feed on smaller fish, crustaceans, and insects.
