In captivity, they can be fed a variety of foods including high-quality flake or pellet food, frozen or live brine shrimp, bloodworms, and small insects. It is recommended to feed them small amounts of food multiple times a day.

The parents will defend their young and can become aggressive towards other fish during this time.

The fish should be floated in a bag or container for about 20-30 minutes to allow the water temperatures to equalize. Gradually add small amounts of the aquarium water to the bag or container every 5-10 minutes until the bag/container is full. Carefully release the fish into the aquarium.
