General info about Metallic Green Galaxea

In general, corals from the genus Galaxea have corallites that have different sizes in just a single colony. Their polyps are usually exposed and extended out and usually has a milky white tip which is a unique feature for all Galaxea corals.

As for the Metallic Green Galaxea, they are predominantly colored reddish purple with green polyps. This are the water parameters for cultivating Metallic Green Galaxea:

  • Calcium: 400 - 450 ppm
  • Alkalinity: 2.86 - 4.29 MEQ/L (8 - 12 dKH)
  • Phosphates: 0
  • Magnesium: 1200 - 1350
  • Strontium: 8 - 10
  • Temperature: 72° - 78° F (22° - 26° C)
  • Salinity / Specific Gravity: 1.023 - 1.025
  • pH: 8.1 - 8.4

Metallic Green Galaxea Diet & Nutrition

The Metallic Green Galaxea get its primary nutrition from a symbiotic algae called zooxanthellae that is living within their tissues. However, we still rcommend you do supplemental feeding by adding mysis and brine shrimp in the water.

Fragging / Propagating Metallic Green Galaxea

A mature tank is highly recommended in propagating Metallic Green Galaxea. They must be set at the middle or bottom part of the tank to simulate their natural wild environment.

Flow / Lighting Requirements for Metallic Green Galaxea

The Metallic Green Galaxea requires moderate lighting and moderate waterflow.

Metallic Green Galaxea Origin

The Metallic Green Galaxea can be found in the waters of the Indo-Pacific Ocean, particularly in Japan to Australia and Egypt to Tahiti. They are now listed as a threatened species under Appendix II of the CITES list.

Caution Should be Taken with Metallic Green Galaxea

The Metallic Green Galaxea has a aggressive behaviour. So proper spacing in relation to other corals must be observed.

How to Acclimate Metallic Green Galaxea

The Metallic Green Galaxea is a marine species. Therefore, salinity must be maintained thoroughly at 1.023 to 1.025 specific gravity.

Stinging Tentacles on Metallic Green Galaxea

The Metallic Green Galaxea has sweeper tentacles that can sting nearby corals.
