Kissing Prochilodus

Kissing Prochilodus can grow up to 12 inches in length and require a minimum tank size of 100 gallons. They prefer neutral to slightly acidic water with a pH range of 6.5-7.5 and moderate to hard water with a dH of 10-20.

Kissing Prochilodus are herbivores and require a varied diet that includes both vegetable matter and protein. They can be fed a combination of commercial flake or pellet food supplemented with fresh vegetables such as spinach, lettuce, and cucumber.

Breeding Kissing Prochilodus in a home aquarium is challenging and has not been widely accomplished. In the wild, they are known to spawn during the rainy season in riverine habitats.

Kissing Prochilodus are generally hardy fish but can be susceptible to common aquarium diseases such as Ich, bacterial infections, and fungal infections.

Kissing Prochilodus are peaceful fish but can become aggressive during breeding season. They can also grow quite large, so they should only be kept in a tank with suitable tank mates.

When introducing Kissing Prochilodus to a new tank, it is important to acclimate them slowly to prevent stress and shock. Float the bag containing the fish in the tank for 15-20 minutes to allow the temperature to equalize, then slowly add small amounts of aquarium water to the bag every 10-15 minutes until the bag is full.
