Diamond Tetra

The Diamond Tetra is a peaceful freshwater fish that can grow up to 2 inches (5 cm) in length. It has a diamond-shaped patch of silver or white color on its sides and an iridescent blue-black body. This species is hardy and can be kept in a community aquarium with other peaceful fish species. They prefer a planted aquarium with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5, and a temperature range of 72-82°F (22-28°C).

The Diamond Tetra is an omnivore and will eat both live and prepared foods. They can be fed a variety of foods such as flakes, pellets, frozen foods, and live foods such as brine shrimp or bloodworms. Providing a varied diet will ensure they receive all the necessary nutrients for their health and vitality.

The males are generally smaller and more slender than females. During breeding, males will have a more intense coloration and a red stripe on their fins.

Diamond Tetras are egg layers and will lay their eggs in plants. Breeding can be induced by providing a breeding tank with soft water and live plants. The breeding tank should have a temperature between 77-82°F (25-28°C) and a pH level between 6.0 and 6.5. The eggs will hatch in 24-48 hours, and the fry will be free-swimming after 3-4 days.

The Diamond Tetra is generally a healthy species, but they are susceptible to common fish diseases such as ich and fungal infections. Regular water changes and maintaining proper water parameters can help prevent disease outbreaks.

The Diamond Tetra is not known to be aggressive, but they can be fin nippers. Avoid keeping them with long-finned or slow-moving fish species.

The Diamond Tetra should be acclimated slowly to the aquarium water to avoid shock. Float the bag in the aquarium water for 15-20 minutes to allow the temperature to equalize. Then, gradually add small amounts of aquarium water to the bag over the course of 1-2 hours until the water in the bag and the aquarium water match.
