The Harlequin Bass, Serranus tigrinus, displays a gorgeous color and unique pattern, that makes a beautiful addition to any aquarium. The Harlequin Bass has black stripes and bars forming irregular rectangles on its body. With a unique pointed snout and distinct color pattern, that makes it easy to identify. Along with this, it features a yellow chin and belly that make the Harlequin Bass more attractive. Since it is easy to care for and hardy in nature, the Harlequin Bass makes a very good choice for a beginner aquarist. As it matures, it grows to 11 inches, and is best to keep in a tank not less than 70 gallons. Ideally, only one Harlequin Bass per tank is recommended, unless a true bonded pair can be obtained. Which should be kept in a tank no less than 130 gallons. The Harlequin Bass loves to spend its time perching in, on, and around the rocks and caves. Therefore you should provide plenty of live rock for caves, and a thick sand bed, as it prefers to dig in the sand as well, this will help make the  Harlequin Bass feel more at ease. It may prey on smaller crustaceans like shrimp and crabs, which makes it safe in a reef tank but with caution. The Harlequin Bass can be fed a variety of foods that include frozen or fresh Shrimp, Clam, Scallop, Brine shrimp, Mysis shrimp, Krill, and similar meaty preparations.  Being semi-aggressive it can get along with larger community fish but may be found intimidating smaller fish or crustacean tank mates.  It thrives well in a temperature range of 74-82?? Fahrenheit and a pH of 8.0-8.4
